THE SCOPES
Right now I am building three new scopes, the largest one being named Luther II, after my son. Here’s a brief introduction in the following video:
Here with the outer structure finished, Luther II has the greatest ratio of height to viewing distance of any kaleidoscope that has been built. The 6′ tall mirrors promise a big experience, which extends to 12′ as you peer inside and gaze upwards.
With a huge vertical revolving barrel, flourescent paint and a combination of ultra-violet light and infinitely controllable arrays of LEDs, Luther II promises to be the highlight installation of this season and beyond.
This is a scope that I’ve been wanting to recreate for a long time. It was the favourite scope of my son Luther, who has since passed away, and I’m really glad that it’s been possible to build it again and share what he loved about it with the world.
Here is Luther II with Scope I and Scope II. Scope I is a large kaleidoscope, and Scope II is a large taleidoscope. Whereas a kaleidoscope typically has objects inside it, a taleidoscope has an open end so that external objects make up the image. In the case of Scope II, it is large enough 2 people to face one another from either end, which makes for some amazing experiences.

Hello Paul. Alan just forwarded a link to your site....am well impressed with your new space mission. Loved the set-up in Alan's stone shed on the night of his 60th. birthday (2010) & the surprise and delight that people expressed on seeing it. Wishing you much success and happiness. Glen.
